vegetarian bbq
Kirsty asked the cooking recipe:

I know certain Quorn products can be BBQ cooked, but I’m wanting something more homemade.

Use quorn mince to make your own burgers or kofta kebabs. Just add onion, garlic and herbs and spices of your choice, add an egg to bind the mixture and either shape into burgers or skewer them into koftas.

Aight, heres a south Texas recipe straight off my home grill.
get ya a sweet onion and a head of cabbage, cut the cabbage from the top cross wise each way nice and deep.
take the sweet onion cut it in rounds, stick it all on a large enough sheet of tinfoil to cover the whole thing and sorta tent the top.
With a few pats of butter and some pace picante sauce sprinkle with some tonys chacharee and put it on the pit till its
getting nice and soft.Open the top of the foil and put some pecan wood chips soaked in water in the fire and cover for 15 to 20 more minutes.
*( Wood chips are for all y’all yankees, we cook with wood…lol!) Opener up and serve it up…Fantastic!

Have you tried Halloumi cheese on the barbe? Delicious! Try making some kebabs with cubes of halloumi, cherry tomatoes, halved small mushrooms, and pieces of peppers. Brush with olive oil and cook away to your heart’s content. Be warned though, the cheese can fall through the grill onto the coals so you need to keep an eye on it.

The obvious ones (probably because they go down well) are meet-free burgers and sausages and I am sure you could find a recipe somewhere for them. I did see someone on TV last week making chicken tikka and thought it would work well with quorn fillets. The recipe can be found here but obviously make it with quorn not chicken and I would BBQ it too.

Although my husband eats quorn, I do not so these are the sort of things I make. Large mushrooms, peppers or tomatoes work well stuffed. I like to get big tomatoes and cut and save the top off then hollow them out then make a mix of chopped onions, basil, and grated cheddar cheese and put it into the tomatoes and put the top back on. Then wrap in tin foil and put on the BBQ.

Vegetable kebabs are good fun too and you can get creative with the marinade. Huge mushrooms smothered in chopped garlic and a bit of oil is something else I like. I am not sure f it would work but maybe making spicy BBQ’ed potato wedges may work too.

I like to serve my BBQ’s with plenty of different sorts of salad, past and jacket potatoes too!
