The older I get the less I feel like cooking. I am so tired of beef, pork, chicken, and even veggies. Boring!?

indian casserole
Anna Og asked the cooking recipe:

I want something NEW. (can’t get lamb much here) Tired of soups, salads, casseroles, BBQ, curries, Italian, Indian, Oriental, even desserts, I just want something NEW.
I turn more and more cooking over to kids, I just do not want to cook anymore. I don’t even care much if I eat.
Other moms? Does this happen to you too.

why don’t you try cooking fish? You can do sushi or fish and chips or whole cooked fish you can steam it fry it crumb it and everything!

Buy a few cook books and see if they have something you’d like to cook.

You could try baking your own bread and biscuits and such, you can make your own bread interesting by adding things like pumpkin seeds and other nuts/dried fruits and seeds.

Hope this helps =)

Yes to many; and the older we become the lesser food we need. So stop cooking and start living your life….Go out and enjoy the sun, the sights, the air, the sight of trees and birds…. Stop wasting your time on household chores and in the kitchen. Just grab a soda cracker and a bottle of water and start walking around.
This is relaxing and it’s fun! You’ll start seeing the world, your neighborhood, your friends, your family from a different paradigm because now you are enjoying your freedom. Try it! It works!

It probably isn’t because you’re getting older.. just pointing that out. You might just be going through a phase. I can’t seem to think of anything that doesn’t go into the categories you’re tired of.
If the kids are willing to cook their own meals, then let them, if you’re not hungry. Just make sure you do eat. If it’s becoming a serious health problem, see your doctor and a nutritionist.

Are they fussy? Sometimes when all I get is “Yeah that was all right!” I get in the same mood and tell them they can open a tin for themselves tomorrow!

Sometimes it does. I get bored with the same old routine. I sometimes go searching for new recipes that sound easy to make, yet give a new zip to an old dish. One of my favorites is to take baked chicken breast and place it on a bed of stuffing surrounded with broccoli and cauliflower then cover with Campbell’s cream of cheddar soup. It is all common dishes, but they taste great together like that. It is sometimes hard to get creative with food when trying to keep to a budget. I used to find lots of great and easy recipes on campbell’s soup labels.

Yes, I have those weeks where I’m like, food… totally not appetizing right now. It feels like I’ve tried everything and cooked everything.

But, try Bison meat! I’ve always wanted to!! And this weekend I’m hoping to take a trip up to the reserve and get some!

Also, try this website - allrecipes.com. Everything does get a little repetative. Have you thought of Pad Thai (my FAVORITE!) or getting your kids to create something.. while monitored of course :-)

My family is German and Irish. Have you tried bangers and mash for dinner (awesome), or crepes with ground beef and syrup (amazing), or russian borscht (I could live off that for weeks), uhm… stuffed green peppers, crab wontongs (ultimate favorite but so fatty), cripsy chicken ceasar salad wraps, Jagerschnitzel, pork on a bun, roll kuchen! Those are a few family favorites.

Good luck!! Hopefully food becomes interesting again :-)

Try some seafood!
When mine are old enough I will turn over cooking to them too, they gotta learn and I gotta put my feet up.

I get so tired of cooking too. Sometimes nothing sounds good. Plus, with 3 kids (2 of which are picky) it’s hard to find foods that all 3 like. If you don’t even care if you eat, you might want to make sure there’s not a medical reason behind this.

Try fresh (not canned) tuna, farmed salmon (it’s a bad run for wild salmon this year), catfish, flounder, etc. And don’t be afraid to try seaweed (I LOVE sweet seaweed salad, buy it at your local oriental food store) and all kinds of seafood and fresh water fish.

One of my favorites to cook is squid steaks, fried or grilled. Don’t be afraid of trying other unusual (in American kitchens) seafoods like octopus.

Try sushi, it’s easy to make, very healthy and low-fat, and has a million different flavors, depending on what kind of fish (if any) and vegetables you use. (Sushi means “with rice,” not raw fish, you can use cooked fish, smoked fish or even just vegetables)

Also, try bison, it’s healthier than beef and is surprisingly easy to find once you start to look around.

And turkey, it’s not just for Thanksgiving.

Also, get some new recipes. I personally found that switching from baking to grilling changes flavors enough it almost seems like a new food. I especially love grilled vegetables. Sliced eggplant marinated in oil and vinegar with spices and grilled is yummy!

Set up an outdoor kitchen for the summer so you can be out with the kids having fun while you cook. A change in venue can make cooking a whole new experience.
